It seems the messageboard has sunken into an abyss of smack and hate, but NFL Network pays me for analysis and evaluation so I`ll give just due to tonight`s big matchup. This game`s been brewing for 2 weeks and Triple Crown has not even been mentioned on any threads due to this Jeff kid vs the League distraction. Tonights game will come down to TC`s system--most notably the `spread` offense--vs the Spartan`s attacking zone- blitzing defense. The TC Q makes quick reads and decisions. If he puts together a few good drives with quick strikes early, the Spartan D will be forced to back off their rush and react to the TC offense instead of trying to disrupt it. Yards after the Catch will decide the game. A few missed flags and TC`s quick throws become long gains. If the Spartans can pull flags and force bad throws, TC might be forced into a conventional offense which is not their strength and would likely struggle against the Spartans aggressive secondary. The question mark for the Spartans, obviously, is who will be their QB? With the veteran Slash benched, the reins probably go to the DO kid. There is something to be said for putting the ball in your best player`s hands every play. The problem is you have 2 or 3 guys running at him in the backfield and he becomes less effective without the open field of a one on one matchup. He is also the best WR, so you sacrifice his downfield threat. All eyes will be on him to see if he can get comfortable enough to put together sustained drives. If he gets on a roll, and mixes in the run with the passing game they can put up some points. But will it be enough? The difference will be flag pulling--as in, not giving up big plays on short passes. Can the Spartan defense pull flags and stay disciplined to contain the TC spread attack? A great early season matchup with huge implications, especially for a reeling Spartan`s squad still trying to feel their way in a new league. |
