This was the first meeting between these two teams.

He was still in the ER at midnight last night he had to have a C-scan so I have not heard anything yet. But the ER Doc said it looked good last night but would not give me any more info.

I hope it turns out well, it`s a hard reminder, even though its a "pickup" sport freak accidents can happen. Keep us posted....

Just got home from a family vacation and saw this. My sincerest sympathy goes out to the Mac Daddies lineman who was hurt and the team. Please let him know all the Boots wish him well, and that his injury isn`t permanent!

He had to have surgery yesterday after noon to repair the orbital bone under his eye, along with a fractured nose. He had to have a plate put under his eye socket. He is still at the hospital as far as I know, and yes it was Derek. I have been playing this game long enough to know you have to hit someone pretty hard in tue face to have multiple fractures, just sayin!!!!!

I sure hope it was not intentional. that is a lot to go through. he is in our prayers.

Thats horrible. I really hope he recovers and his vision is ok. I understand its a physical game but some people need to realize this is just a hobby and we all have jobs and families that need us.

I have to say I doubt very seriously it was intentional. You would have to know the body well to intentionally poke someone`s eye out. Its not something that happens everyday. Yes it was there C/ LB, and by far was this no poke! I spoke with him over the weekend. He had plates put in the eye socket to hold the eye in place. The orbital bone was broke in 3 different places along with the nose. I`m no doctor, but damn if you can do that with a poke this dude should be in the UFC fighting! As of thus weekend his eye is still shut, he hopes to see an eye speclist this week and a plastic surgeon. I will keep posted.

I wasn`t there, but I was told by someone who was. That two guys ran into each other. The guy who told me said it didn`t look intentional at all. Just an unfortunate collision.

Nobody wants to see that happen to anyone. I doubt most guys in this league are strong enough to punch someone and break all of those bones too. I hope he has a full recovery.

I think if anyone really does care or wants to help the guy out. Donate some money to him. Next time you see Mac Daddies, go up to the captain and donate some money or something. This guys whole life is gonna be changed and he`s gonna have to worry about paying for all of it. Lets show him what kind of football community this is and help him out.

it happened to a guy in richmond 2006,kinda same thing a weird collison with a severe eye injury, he had to sue the county and he won plus he got a partial disability for life

Playing flag football, in a league that allows physical play on the line, is considered a dangerous activity.

League should still take safety precautions to protect players (i.e. mandatory mouthguards especially on the line). Growing up leagues always made it mandatory to have a mouthguard, just like having pants/shorts with no pockets, and not wearing jewelry is mandatory. I took teeth to the forehead several weeks ago and it wasn`t pleasant for either of us. Dudes mouth that hit me didn`t appear to be in good shape. I know it`s football, but without lids on, guys need to play heads up on the line instead of leading with the head. Common sense will lead to less injuries like above. It is always scary when players get hurt as serious as the lineman from MDs did.

I feel for this guy. A very serious injury when he`s just out there to have fun and keep the competitive spirit alive. I hope he`s ok, anyone talking about the assumption of risk should shut up, people get hurt now and then...we pull hamstrings and break fingers...this is obviously on another level, put yourself in his shoes and imagine how you would feel if this happened to you in a fcffl/iffl flag football game.

dude, assumption of risk was only brought up cause some jackass tried to say the same thing happened to someone else and that person was able to sue, which would only work if the act was deemed intentional. I agree, the severity of the injury sucks, but this league has a few severe injuries every season, Caines dislocated elbow, already been a few ACL tears, etc. Just puts things in perspective...this is only for recreation.

First off, it was not a cheap shot. I have played in this league, as a lineman on both sides of the ball for years. Hands constantly get into peoples faces unintentionally. If you haven`t played the line before, I suggest you do before you comment. Most of you wouldn`t last two plays. Second, everyone of our players asked how he was doing after the game and said to his teammates that we wished him well. Not one of you had the balls to say it was a cheap shot when we were standing face to face. Third, without requiring helmets with a face shield there is nothing the league can do to prevent this from occuring. Mouth pieces are not designed to protect your teeth. Their primary function is to prevent concussions. Also, you tell lineman to "keep their heads up". Obviously you were the one leading with your head if you ended up with teeth in your head. Take your own advice.

I am going to put an end to this whole thing. First let me thank those teams and players that have sent well wishes. I am in good spirts. Surgery to repair the orbital bone with plates was a success. I am still having some double vision problems, but that should go away in due time. Doesn`t look like football will be in my future, due to if I get hit in the same eye I could loose complete vision. Good luck to the everyone and every team! I have no hard feelings towards anyone or any team.

It`s it in the works. Glory Days will allow us to choose a date, go there and ask everyone there for their receipts. Every receipt that we collect on that day, 10% of the total will go towards the fundraiser.

Its just a matter of time and figuring out the final details. I also went up and spoke with Mac Daddies before their game last night. Once specific details are finalized, I will post something on here to invite everyone out.
