I have been messaged by several coaches suggesting the C or B playoffs be expanded to include more teams.

The cut in the league fee cut the guaranteed games (regular season) from 9 to 8 - that`s one thing, but the additional balance was to trim back the playoffs.

We`re essentially taking the top 8/14 in both B and C. On the other hand in past seasons when there has been 4 divisions of 9+ (vs 5 of less than 9), the top 8 was of course a higher percentage of teams.

I definitely do not want to expand the playoffs, but what I will do is expand the postseason by 3 games with a consolation tournament for the four 5th place B and C teams.

This will help with the odd game out playoff championship game (makes it a 2-game night so we`re not paying more for officiating).

Additionally it will make the other playoff teams happy (there`s always a catch) - round 1 games will be on 10/31 so the B and/or C playoff teams don`t have to play that night.

If any fifth declines, the bid will go to the 6th and then the 7th place team.

For the trophy, I`ll just glue an empty (or full? depending on the team) whiskey bottle to a spare trophy base and get a label made: "Tournament of Fifths Champion".

Lord have mercy. A whiskey bottle trophy Tom? Why not just glue a baby bottle to a used diaper? That would be much more symbolic of shitty teams crying because they suck too bad to make the real playoffs.

Stupid B and C teams. I can`t believe I`m even wasting my breath on this. Watching their games is more painful than watching D3 women`s basketball.

at least in B and C not every team makes the playoffs.

i wouldnt even bother with the trophies. either that or take the money you would have spent on trophies and give the winning teams a cold case of beer.

The winner should get a case of champagne to pop and spray each other with after they dump the gatorade on the coach and right before they leave for disneyworld.

I like the trophy idea. Lord Whiskey Bottle. Each player can run around the field with it after the championship game. Then each guy gets to keep it for a short time to show off at work, home, and social engagements. The Baby Bottle Trophy is a good idea but was already awarded to the Spartans last Spring.
