Who are the first round winners in B?

Miss Cleo

B league is very competitive this year, but Miss Cleo has all the answers! Here are your 1st round winners:

Outcast/Whoopdiddy:
Interesting matchup as whoopdiddy beat outcast during the regular season. Moreover, whoopdiddy probably knows Outcast the best out of all the teams in B league. Not exactly an easy first round match up for #1 seeded Outcast. However, Outcast finished the season on top of their game. Look for them to win this one 17-10.

Bulldogs/Union:
Miss Cleo thinks the Bulldogs can win B if they have everyone show up. The Union played teams close all year, but lack a prolific offense. Look for Bulldogs to take this one 21-6.

Acid Reign/Ignite:
Two of the most confusing teams in B. Ignite started 4-0, including a 23-6 victory to the Hawks, but finished the season 0-3-1. Acid Reign struggled in the beginning, losing to the Cougars and nZone. However, they finished with victories over Outcast and Whoopdiddy. This one is a toss-up, but Miss Cleo will pick an upset with Ignite winning 13-10.

Cougars/Hawks:
Another interesting Matchup as the cougars have the lead in their all time series. Both teams know each other well. The Cougars always go into games as underdogs (not sure why), and always seem to "upset" some teams. Hawks won the regular season matchup. The cougars got the best of the Hawks last year, including winning the B `ship over the Hawks. Look for the Hawks to get revenge this post-season. Hawks win 20-14

Congrats on the win last night, you played well. For clarification going forward...quotes added for emphasis

Defensive pass interference always includes an automatic first down for the offense. The location of the penalty enforcement depends on the where the foul occurs in relation to the previous spot. If the foul takes place FEWER than 15 yards beyond the previous spot, then the penalty is simply an automatic first down at the spot of the foul, "and no additional yardage is assessed". If the foul takes place 15 OR MORE yards beyond the previous spot, then the penalty is 15 yards from the previous spot plus an automatic first down. So for example, if the interference takes place seven yards downfield from where the ball was snapped, then the next play is a first down at that spot (officials call this a “spot foul”); but if the foul takes place, say, 25 yards beyond where the ball was snapped, then the officials will step off 15 yards from the previous spot–again, with an automatic first down.

what happened in the game then? guessing a PI call didn`t go over well? Let`s get a recap!

Recap

May 22, 2013

;
Hawks spread offense was too much for the Cougars. Cougars put up a good fight but Hawks were the better team last night. I don`t think the Cougars stopped them.

As for the pass interference, last play of the first half Hawks threw a long pass that was caught on the Cougars 15, and defensive pass interference was called. The refs gave the ball to the Hawks at the 15 (the spot of the catch) and then tacked on an additional half the distance to the goal line. Wrong call - pass interference is either accepted (spot foul) or declined (result of play) but tacking on the penalty to the result of the play was the wrong call.

correct on the recap. not sure why the ref is either unaware of this most basic of rules or whether once he made a call, he did not want to admit his mistake in front of the players from both teams (though obviously it was the cougars arguing the point)... even when the other refs were like "are you sure?", he was reluctant to admit his mistake. truthfully it did not impact the outcome of the game, but this hubris by some of the refs is just flat wrong and hope Tom can address in the offseason. this should not being happening after all these years.....

Number one rule question is 2 feet or 1 foot in bounds for a catch.

For Defensive pass interference the ball is always placed at the spot of the foul unless it occurs in the end zone, then the ball is placed on the 1 yard line. Rule 7, Section 4, Article 7, Item E

And yes, you must get both feet in bounds for a catch. Rule 7, Section 4, Article 5

may want to pass that along to the referee`s

actually

the worst part was the 3 ref`s got together and had a little conference then came back and still blew the call. that all 3 would blow a simple rules call like that was crazy.

No need to, they read the board. Case in point, Carlton emailed me and explained the play in question. The call was defensive pass interference at the 8 yard line, the ball was caught there and the runner had his flag pulled at the 4 yard line. Time had expired, and the half cannot end on a defensive penalty so there was one un-timed down from the spot where the previous play ended, the 4 yard line.

I can see why someone thought that half the distance was awarded, but that wasn`t the case here. It was simply an un-timed down from where the previous play ended.

There are 4 teams left fighting for the crown in B. Miss Cleo will guide you through. Here are Miss Cleo`s predictions for the B semi-finals:

WhoopDiddy/Bulldogs:
WD pulled off the biggest upset last week as the #8 seed beating the #1 seeded Outcast. WD had a surprise face at QB against Outcast, which turned out to be a real difference maker. Was it a fluke? We may not know because it sounds like WD will not being using that QB in this game, and going with the regular season starter. Playoffs are a very pivotal time to mess with success; hopefully that decision works for WD. Bulldogs remain the most versatile team on offense in B, scoring at least 4 TD`s the past 4/5 games. WD struggled against the Bulldogs in the regular season, losing 27-13. Bulldogs remain Miss Cleo`s favorite to Win B. Look for them to Beat WD 24-13

Hawks/Acid Reign:
Interesting match up here as the Hawks lost to AR during the regular season 6-7. AR has been on a hot streak as of late, including a strong performance in the first round against Ignite. AR`s defense has performed well against spread offenses this season. The Hawks are a tough team to beat. It will be interesting to see if the their spread offense can put up enough points to win. Look for AR to win this one 19-16 in OT.

False. The PI occurred at approximately the 17. The runner was nowhere near the 4 yard line. The penalty was clearly explained as a PI call and marked off from the spot of the flag pull and the argument that ensued was over whether or not a defensive PI could be accepted, counting the catch, and also be marked off half the distance in the same manner as a late hit or impeding. It was stated multiple times that they were marking off a half the distance penalty for PI, which is incorrect. What you are hearing is a little CYA revisionist history.

WD brought in some muscle for the playoffs. Can`t see how they bring in a QB just for OC and then go with their regular the rest of the way. Lets hope they bring out the same group for Bulldogs. If not - could raise questions !!!!!
